Mascots: "Shubao" and "Jinzi"

Convey the cultural heritage of Ba Shu and talk about the construction of ecological civilisation

The reporter learnt that the mascots of the Chengdu World Games, "Shubao and Jinzai", which were publicly unveiled for the first time, are based on the "Double Treasure" - the giant panda and the Sichuan snub-nosed monkey. The design team hopes to use the "Double Treasure" as a cultural carrier to show Chengdu's image as an ecologically livable and friendly city, and at the same time, call on everyone to care for rare animals and pay attention to the protection of biodiversity, which is in line with the concept of the World Games focusing on environmental protection and sustainability.

"The mascot design explores and skilfully applies endemic rare animals, representative plants, craft fabrics of non-heritage and unearthed relics with deep cultural heritage." According to Xu Xingguo, Chengdu's hibiscus petals are interpreted as the inner ear of the giant panda; the texture of Shu brocade is fused with the green water and green mountains and woven into the mascot's costume; artefacts unearthed at the Sanxingdui Mound are visualised as the ears of the Sichuan golden snub-nosed monkey; and the sun goddess bird pattern is the cultural motif of the clothes.

In addition, the designers fused the gradient colours of the green mountains and the blue-purple of the World Games brand as the base colour of the entire mascot's costume, and used the yellow-orange of the Jinsha Sun Pattern as the accent colour, which ultimately formed the cultural colours of the mascot. "These three colours fully express the fusion between different cultures and convey the pursuit of the value of 'community of human destiny'." Xu Xingguo said.
